‘Girls Gone Wild’ gets a slap on the wrist

December 14th, 2006 | by Vinny |

This fine and sentence is not nearly enough.

Joe Francis and ‘Girls Gone Wild’ have pleaded guilty in the most recent case brought against the video empire.

Mantra Films Inc. pleaded guilty in a case that stemmed from its use of two 17-year-olds in its DVDs and videos, which feature young women baring their breasts in public.

I’ve already written about this (expletive deleted) on another blog. I’m very disappointed with this outcome. $1.3 million dollars is pocket change for this guy. This is 12% of the profit from 2005, and 3% of the overall profit since the inception of the company. How is this going to convince them to change their practices?

They advertise on TV, glorifying what they do. College boys line up around the block to attend their parties, and the last female reporter to cover this jerk was lucky to escape safely from the experience.

Preying on women is sleazy and disgusting. Preying on girls is so far below that. The next time, who knows? The best thing we can do is teach our children and hope it gets resolved in the pocketbook. Teach our sons to vote with their minds and pocketbooks. Teach our daughters to be safe and responsible, and remind them that they are beautiful, important people who have so much more to share than their bodies. Short skirts, drunken dance contests, and wet t-shirts are not who they are.

By the way- the judge sentenced he AND a handful of his corporate officers to 8 hours of community service each month for 30 months. He also stated he would let the officers off the hook if Francis would do 16 hours each month. What do you think the likelihood of that will be? I’d bet he asked if his officers could do more service and HE could get out of it.

I need another shower. I feel scummy just writing about this guy.

The fine is ludicrous. I also would have liked to see a specific community service assigned. I’m concerned he’ll choose an organization ripe with young women.

I’m done with the stomach flu, but I’m nauseous just reading this.

BTW - I really like the new color scheme. Keep up the great work!

It’s seeing parents like you take the time to read and write on these things that make me feel that though there are scum bags like this out there, our daughters are being educated properly AGAINST that kind of crap.

Seriously. Even when we were all in college we never participated in things like that. Things like that didn’t exist in our world. It wouldn’t have even crossed our minds.

The key is teaching your children to respect themselves and to boost their self-esteem. If young girls feel the need to be attractive as a form of acceptance, they will do foolish things like appear in those videos. The key issue is self-esteem; if they had it, they wouldn’t go naked on video. I agree that the sentence was far too low.
